NSS (National Service Scheme)
The National Service Scheme is an organisation that helps the students to develop their personalities and to broaden their outlook through mass contact and community service. An NSS wing was opened in 1996 and it has been actively functioning and participating in various programmes like organising health camp and representing Dibrugarh in the month long Republic Day Parade camp held in New Delhi. Students are expected to render service to their society by becoming a member of this organisation.
Few NSS unitβs Activity so far
Around 20 volunteers participated in Extension programme on Cultural Exchange & Communal Harmony and Environmental Awareness in 2011in Tipam Phake, Joypore Rain Forest & Sassoni Merbil in Dibrugarh district. The programme was organised by Dr Lohit Saikia, Programme officer, NSS, MDKG College.
15 cadets of the unit participated in Traffic control in connection with Road Safety Week from 1st to 7th January, 2010 at Phool Bagan & Thana Chariali, Dibrugarh.
25 cadets from the unit participated in Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme held at District Dispensary, Dibrugarh.
Live Demonstration on Fire Safety :The primary objective of the programme was to aware the students regarding the precaution and safety measures to be taken during the emergency like fire or any other disaster.A programme on Live Demonstration on Fire Safety was organised on 11-04-2013 in collaboration with Fire & Emergency Service Station, Dibrugarh. The practice undertaken in the programme was to aware the students regarding fire safety.Trained personals from the concerned field provided practical as well as theoretical knowledge-how of fire safety to the students.
1st Orientation Programme to the NSS Volunteers: The NSS cell believes that proper guidance and training as well as motivation is always needed for ensuring active participation in community service. With this basic objective, the programme officer had organised Orientation Programme for the NSS volunteers to aware them about the fundamental aspects of NSS and other responsibilities to be entrusted to them in future. 1st orientation programme to the NSS volunteers was organised on 2nd April 2015 to make understand about the NSS, its song & logo, different types of activities to be performed by the NSSV, the thrust areas of the activities and how to make the works accurately and so on. A total of 43 volunteers were present in the said orientation. Dipankar Sarmah, programme officer of the NSS Wing, MDKG College has delivered the activity based talk .
Second Orientation Programme on NSS: Another orientation programme was organised on 4th April 2015 to make understand about the NSS, its song & logo, different types of activities to be performed by the NSSV, the thrust areas of the activities and how to make the works accurately and so on. It is also a follow up a like programme of the previous orientation. A total of 41 volunteers were present in the said orientation. Dipankar Sarmah, programme officer of the NSS Wing, MDKG College has delivered the activity based talk with the use of power point presentation.
Swaach Bharat Abhiyan for Cleaning the College Campus : As per the decision of the meeting, held on 21st June, a Swaach Bharat Abhiyan for Cleaning the College Campus has been conducted from 22nd to 26th June, 2015 in between 2.00 - 4.00 pm. The volunteers have cleaned the classrooms and campus the college. This has been done in accordance with the subject of implementation of Clean India Week as directed by UGC under the initiative of Government of India. The programme was started by Dr. D.K. Bhuyan, Principal of the college. A total of 42 volunteers were present in all the days. The goal of the work is to implement the Swach Bharat Abhijan for Cleaning the College Campus. The objectives and principles are to work in accordance to the tempo of the nation as well as showing the cooperation and response to the Prime Minister of India in his call to clean India drive. Moreover it is believed that this work will strengthen the nationalism of the students and also will enrich the feeling of patriotism.
Participation in Cultural Procession : The MDKG College Studentsβ Union has organised a cultural rally / procession on the eve of 51st Annual College Week which was started from the college gate and returned to the institute from the Thana Chariali via K.C. Gogoi Road on the 12th day of January 2016. The volunteers of NSS Cell of MDKG College have also actively participated in the said rally with posters. The NSSVs condemn terrorism and witch hunting which was presented through posters. The primary objective of the cultural procession was to condemn the terrorism and with hunting which is a hurdle of a peaceful society.
Mass Pledge on Cleanliness : As per the circular of UGC, New Delhi vide D.O.No.F.1-1/2016(Secy) dated 29th January 2016, the NSS Cell of the college has organised a mass gathering on the first day of February at 11 am to take a mass pledge on cleanliness which is a part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Vice Principal Dr. U.C. Saharia and Dr. Lohit Saikia, Head of Geography department have also graced the occasion. NSS PO Prof. Utpal Sut, Assistant Professor of the Economics Department of the institute has initiated the mass pledge. A total of 250 students of the college including the NSS volunteers have taken the pledge.
